Busy Weekend

Saturday 6/14/14 was about helping friends, making connections and of course the cutting boards.  Bud and I needed to split up, so our friends Jessie and Andrew Adams agreed to help us out. Thank you both!!

Buddy and Andrew hit the Quechee Gorge Villiage Artisan's Market. This was our first opportunity at the Artisan's Market and all thanks to being a member of the Vermont Hand Crafters.

We reserved a spot on the porch and quickly realized that a banner is needed (we'll work on that). 

Table staging is fun, between the pineapple, the apples, knife, wine, flowers, candles and granite sample from Shaker Hill Granite. The granite was a last minute idea and I love it. The local folks all say "You know Rob"? 

Of course we know Rob, haha!  All in all a good day in Quechee.  We'll be back on July 5th, hopefully with a banner and signage. Thank you Randy / Whisper Hill Bath and Body, see you again soon!

Back in Windsor...

15 Years Ago...

A pretty little house was built, and the custom cabinetry chosen was beautiful...and still is! Red Birch (my favorite) partial overlay doors with slab drawers and a slight raised panel door. What isn't so beautiful are the laminated counter tops, but that was all the budget allowed. Spending the money on the high end cabinetry was definitely the right thing to do.

SO excited, the upgrade is finally in the works, thank you Shaker Hill Granite for being so friendly, helpful and awesome.

Our island will be first with the Colonial Gold Leather. This will be a one shot deal.  Easy template, we'll do it ourselves, no cut outs needed and an double pencil edge.

Drawers and rollouts are removed to unscrew the laminate, which will be easy to remove.

Memories!! 

Time to add the braces.  Two of the Stealth Braces by Richelieu provide just what we needed, with no visual.  Cool!

It's time for granite! Woo Hoo! 

Voila! Rob and his guys were in and out in no time.  Teamwork is key when lifting and maneuvering a sizable piece and they have it down.

That was easy!

We have a "B" in the veining, do you see it? Love it! 

Planning ahead for the rest of the counter, which is an L-Shape, fridge - range - corner - farm sink (upgrade).  Cambrian Black Antique will be the choice, we think.  Honed Absolute Black / Enhanced is in the running also.  We'll see!

The Sandy

This design was requested by Sandy (me), keeping it simple as I usually do. 8 1/2" x 12" and only 3/4" thick, it's very light.

Available with equal pieces in all of the wood choices and combos or a skinny stripe in a combo as shown above in maple - walnut.

Which do you prefer? Equal equal or skinny mini?

Buddy did make one with radius corners, which I did keep and use it often. I don't think we'll make this a standard, but as you know, special orders are welcome. If you love it, let us know!

Vermont Hand Crafters

April 17th was an exciting day for us! We had been accepted and invited to the Vermont Hand Crafters jury session. We packed up 8 cutting boards and headed to the queen city. Being newbies, we weren't sure what to expect and we were a bit nervous.  Hoping it didn't show, but it may have!

The Burlington Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center

We arrived early enough for a wonderful lunch at Tuckaway's Pub. Followed by a warm welcoming from the board members, we knew right away that this was a good idea.

All of the artisans, 11 of us, set up our examples of work around the conference table. We were the only woodworker at this session, joined by photographers, painters, jewelry makers and woven fabrics.

While our items were being looked over and discussed by the Jury members, Elizabeth Boudreau entertained us, literally! Elizabeth is the show directer and explained the processes and answered all of our questions. She also explained that not everyone gets accepted as a member, especially not the first time. Not to be discouraged, take the feedback to heart, accept the constructive criticism and if need be, try again.

Thank you Vermont Hand Crafters, we are IN!! I wish I could have featured everyone at the session, but, all of a sudden it was very busy and I wasn't able to.  Glad to have met you all and we look forward to being a part of the Vermont Hand Crafters!!
